Stanford Experiment Summary

1. 1. Describe the experimental design of Zimbardo’s study. Include the hypothesis, IV, DV, Control. Experimental groups, as well as the type of study and methods of research (pages 35-41). At which point did the structure of this experiment break down?

2. 2. According to the text (page 40-41), ethical standards are to be followed throughout all psychological studies. In your opinion, discuss whether or not you feel Zimbardo was being ethical by carrying out this experiment. What components of the experiment, actions, or events supports your answer? Use specific examples from the study as well as ethical standards from the text.

3. 3. If you HAD to carry out this experiment to try and achieve the same dependant variable, which you mentioned above, how would you have designed this study? What components of Zimbardo’s study would you have kept? Removed? Why?
